Parents Can Now Easily Monitor Their Child’s Social Network and Mobile Phone Activity

SocialScout will launch at National PTA Annual Convention, June 21-24

SAN JOSE, CALIF. (June 21, 2012)IDentity Theft 911, a national leader in identity and data risk services and National Member Benefits Provider of PTA, this week announces a new intelligence tool for parents called SocialScout.  This new product offers a quick and easy way to analyze your child’s social networking and mobile phone activity while safeguarding their privacy and reputation on sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

Many parents ‘friend’ their children on various social network sites in an effort to keep track of their child’s online activities. Yet private messages, private profiles, and mobile phone use can keep much of the conversation out of parental sight.

SocialScout bridges this technology gap and makes it easy for parents to know whether their child is making good online and mobile choices, while eliminating hours of time secretly searching their child’s web history, social media sites, and phone records.

“SocialScout provides parents the opportunity to have an open dialogue with their child about social media,” said Matt Cullina, CEO, IDentity Theft 911. “The digital world is a very new area for parents and they’re oftentimes unaware of what their child is doing on these networks. SocialScout allows parents to dive into their child’s activities to help them make better choices.”

SocialScout gives parents an easy-to-read report on whom the child is communicating with, and what they and their contacts are posting and sharing online. It tracks some of the most popular networks, including Facebook and Twitter, and is easily accessible through any Google Android or Blackberry mobile phone. This bird’s-eye view into your child’s digital world includes details about their contacts and the content of their text messages and online posts and messages. Activity Reports can be sent by email on a real-time, daily, weekly or monthly basis. Additionally, SocialScout uses GPS-tracking to conveniently locate your child, ensuring parents know their whereabouts with the push of a button.

Launched at the 116th Annual National PTA Convention and Exhibition, June 21-24, at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center (Booth #401), SocialScout will be made available exclusively to PTA member parents through a partnership with IDentity Theft 911. PTA members will receive a special 10-percent discount on all services.  Presentations demonstrating the service’s capabilities are scheduled on June 21 at noon and June 22 at 5:00 p.m.

“We’re very excited about IDentity Theft 911 and their exclusive offer of SocialScout to PTA members,” said Betsy Landers, National PTA President. “With even the most involved parents and families, text messages and private conversation can fly under the radar. A service like SocialScout is invaluable in breaking down the digital barriers between parent and child and gives relief to those worried about their child’s online and mobile activities.”

At the National PTA Convention, attendees can choose to attend a wide-range of high-quality workshops and sessions, including six workshop tracks and four general meetings. These lively, interactive sessions will impart valuable information and resources that PTA leaders and members can take back to their schools and communities—ideas and inspiration to help grow your local PTA, engage more parents, and involve teachers, students, schools, and business partners.

In addition, SocialScout is available to national and local insurance carriers, financial institutions and employers, offering peace of mind to parents wisely concerned about the online threats targeting their children. For more information, visit mysocialscout.net.
