My name is Shailesh Vimal, and I am a 4th grader at Riverdale Heights Elementary School in Bettendorf, Iowa.
My piece is a non-fiction story based on my real-life experience that happened a couple of years ago during my 1st Grade summer vacation. When my family moved back to India for a year, I felt unsure and wondered if I would belong there. Everything felt new, and I felt like I was between two worlds. In my story, I show how small moments—like sharing food, playing games, and helping friends—helped me feel connected. At home, my cousins, uncles, and aunties filled my days with love.
I enjoy turning real-life experiences into meaningful stories. I especially like brainstorming ideas, organizing my thoughts, and editing my work to make it stronger.
I want to continue improving my writing skills and exploring new ideas from my life and the world around me. I enjoy singing Carnatic music, reading, learning, and finding inspiration in everyday moments. In the future, I hope to keep growing as a writer and sharing stories that connect with others.
