Candidate Narrative
Marla Posey-Moss’s journey in PTA began when she went to a PTA meeting at her son’s school and deescalated a confrontation between the president and secretary. The secretary resigned that evening, and because the principal was impressed with her skills in resolving conflict, she asked Marla to serve as secretary. From there her leadership in the PTA was unexpected.
She was elected as a council PTA VP for Legislation and in that capacity helped as a committee member at the state PTA’s Legislation Committee. The Chair recruited her for VP for Legislation and that position evolved into serving two terms as VP for Advocacy. Her proudest moment is when she successfully advocated through panel testimony before committee members of the Maryland General Assembly for a parent representative recommended by the state PTA to serve on the Maryland State Board of Education.
Based on her experiences she was asked to run as President-Elect. In her collaborative style, she contacted members to join a local PTA in another state to have them participate in the convention of that state Congress to make sure they could conduct business. Her character epitomizes the PTA values we all share as leaders.
Currently, she is the first immediate past president of Free State PTA and outgoing VP for Leadership. While President she successfully wrote a grant to administer a National PTA program. Most notably, she traveled throughout Maryland to speak before all 24 boards of education to promote PTA grants and programs, the legislative agenda, DEI, and our brand.
And last year she crafted the original resolution that derived from Maryland and was conceptually combined with that of New York PTA to have the resolution on Protecting Access to Books and Media in Schools and Libraries adopted by National PTA at the 2024 convention.
