Candidate for Member Representative, Board of Directors
I am honored to be a slated nominee for Member Representative for Board of Directors My family structure is unique because I do not have any biological children; I raised my two younger brothers, Anthony (31) and Deontae (29). I began my PTA career as a local unit president and served as Michigan PTA president from 2011- 2013. I realized that PTA plays a large role in the development and support of families and communities. I honestly believe in the mission and purposes of PTA and want to ensure our place as a world class association for families.
Today, there are many groups that are trying to copycat the legacy of PTA. We must prove that we are relevant to experienced families, a necessity to today’s families and a priority for future families. Our society has been reminded of how important the family school partnership is during this pandemic. PTA has been a long-time advocate of family school partnerships. We must capitalize from this collaborative spirit and ensure PTA is a brand name recognized by all. Developing a strong strategic plan, empowering our governance team to complete the work of this association and building continued financial sustainability will position us for longevity.
I am a child advocate, beyond my involvement with PTA. I serve as the Chief Operating Officer and mentor for the non-profit organization, Purposeful YOUth Detroit; a mentoring organization that mentors and provide leadership, character, and entrepreneurial skills for young girls ages 6-18.
I am committed and have the experience to help National PTA reach its goals. I hope that I have your support as we work together to help PTA rise to the next level.
