Candidate Narrative

Kris Garst

Candidate for Nominating and Leadership Recruitment Committee

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our association – we literally couldn’t do it without them!  To keep our association strong, vibrant, and diverse, it’s imperative that we constantly seek out and develop new talents and perspectives that will further our mission and help us to stay fresh and relevant in a constantly changing world.  National PTA’s Nominating and Leadership Recruitment Committee (NLRC) plays a key role in that process by networking, evaluating, and encouraging the PTA leaders of the future.

As a PTA volunteer, I’ve always been impressed by the wide range of talents and abilities that our members bring to our association, and I love to help potential leaders connect with their next PTA adventures.  After serving as a Member Representative on the National PTA Board of Directors, European PTA President, EPTA Vice President for Legislation, EPTA Vice President of Membership, Local Unit President, and in numerous other positions at the local, state, and national levels, I'm honored to have the opportunity to offer up my own abilities as a slated candidate for the 2021-2024 Nominating and Leadership Recruitment Committee.

Over the past 23 years, I’ve gained experience in recruitment, program development, business management, marketing, human resources management, volunteer management, event planning, training, resource development, graphic design, communications, advocacy, and public relations.  I’m creative, and I love to think outside of the box and problem-solve.   I’m willing to listen and gain an understanding of both sides of an issue, and I'm not shy about speaking up when I see an opportunity for growth.  I hope to have the opportunity to put my experience to work for you
