Candidate Narrative

Jeffery Corbett
Candidate for Member Representative, Board of Directors

When I joined a local PTA in 2000, I thought my involvement would mainly be helping with events at my daughter’s school. How did I go from volunteer to advocate and leader? It took caring mentors, teamwork, and development. Over time, PTA became part of who I am.

During my time as Oklahoma PTA State President, we motivated our members to advocate against voucher legislation, achieved the removal of field testing from state-mandated tests, and hosted a statewide rally for education funding.

I am still active within Oklahoma PTA. I am president of our statewide unit and chair the state’s scholarship program.

For the past twenty-three years, I’ve been proud to work for a nonprofit foundation, raising millions for our local hospital. My work includes bookkeeping, coordinating an extensive scholarship and internship program, and planning large-scale fundraisers.

My nonprofit experience and my leadership growth through PTA prepared me to serve as a member of the National PTA Board of Directors. I am proud of the service I have given since my election in 2018.

Legislative advocacy is important to me, and I am honored to serve on National PTA’s Resolutions Committee. We are charged with helping our members craft the voice of our association.

I believe PTA must develop a new generation of leaders, attract and retain valued members, create an atmosphere that is welcoming to all, and be as diverse as the children we represent.

As a grandparent, I am energized in a whole new way for our students and families. I realize now that my first 20 years of membership were nothing more than a foundation for what is to come.

I look forward to continuing to work with you. Together, we will move our association forward, building a bright future for all children.
