Candidate Narrative

Heather Gillette
Candidate for Member Representative, Board of Directors

I am excited to serve as your member representative on the National PTA Board of Directors.

I believe that the value of PTA comes from within. It is the inherent belief that all children have worth and deserve cheerleaders and advocates speaking up for them, showing up for them, and standing up for them. The value is the legacy passed down over more than 120 years. I will work to protect that value and to make sure we are sustainable into the future with sound business decisions.

In today’s world, I believe a huge concern we all share is the pandemic and what our new normal will become moving through it. We will need to adjust our lens. Instead of looking at this situation as an endless series of problems, we could see it as an enormous opportunity for education in our country, among other things. But communication is key to help us all through this situation. Using National PTA’s strategic vision as a framework for decision making, I believe my leadership and business experience make me qualified to serve on the board working to fulfill our mission.

Teamwork is integral at all levels of what we do to be successful. That teamwork, many coming together to produce something greater than the individual, is the strength of a team and the strength of PTA. I know that communication is not just about talking but even more importantly about listening. Above all, I believe that it is the responsibility of those that represent our PTA members and students to represent them with honesty and integrity. I look forward to working with our exceptional leaders to further the vision and mission of our association.
