Candidate Narrative

Heather Gillette

For almost 30 years, I have devoted countless volunteer hours to help support the mission of PTA in various leadership roles. I am proud to have been a strong child advocate for 24% of National PTA’s 125-year history.

The role of Secretary/Treasurer will be very important over the next few years because this is a time of significant change for PTA. Whether or not the membership approves the dues increase, some critical decisions for the association will need to be made, and we need strong financial leadership. My history of leading through change uniquely qualifies me for this position. During my term as Washington State PTA President, I led my Board of Directors through the very difficult decision of selling our building to help overcome the deficits we were facing. We were forward-thinking and created an investment fund that has ultimately served the association well as they have navigated the issues of the pandemic and low membership.

Our membership will benefit from my service as the Secretary/Treasurer because of the skills I bring to the role. My service on budget and finance committees for PTA, most recently for National PTA in the 2021-2022 year, and two terms as a board member representative are invaluable training for this position.

I have been a small business owner for over five years, and I credit many of the skills I gained through my PTA leadership experience for giving me the confidence to bring those skills to my business. Skills from my for-profit and nonprofit business experience uniquely qualify me for this important position.

I look forward to working with our exceptional leaders to further the vision and mission of our association.
