Candidate Narrative

Erik Champy
Candidate for Board Member

I entered the profession of teaching in order to make a difference.  Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to three goals:  to educate, to advocate for and to celebrate our children.  As an elementary teacher and school counselor, I have worked with diverse students, challenged their strengths and addressed their academic, social and emotional needs. As an adjunct professor, I have prepared educators to work with students, families and communities to achieve greater outcomes.  As a union leader, I have applied my knowledge and partnered with community members from Beacon Hill to Capitol Hill to advocate for students. As a PTA leader in Massachusetts, I have championed children while striving for the schools that our students deserve.

As your current Member Representative with the National PTA Board, I have demonstrated my commitment by attending, participating and contributing to the mission of PTA.  I am mindful of our goals, approach my work seriously, embrace our values, uphold the bylaws and policies that govern our association and come prepared to every meeting ready to represent you. I am a results-oriented professional who believes that we should answer one essential question: What is best for our children?

As an accomplished association, we still have many more opportunities to grow.  In the days ahead, I aspire to continue sharing my knowledge, talents and resources to complement the National PTA.  As our nation’s largest volunteer child advocacy organization, it is essential that we work together, expand our diverse membership, remain committed to our vision, respect differences and concentrate on the needs of our 54 congresses.  If we are to remain relevant, we must address some ways in which we do business, expand our visibility, strengthen training for volunteers and build a culture of trust for our members.  I appreciate your confidence, support and vote!
