Personal and Professional Information

  • I served on the National PTA Board of Directors in 2015
  • I am a father to an 18-year-old daughter, Camille who begins at THE Ohio State University in the fall. My son, D’Angelo Jr. 14-year-old son attends Columbus City Schools.
    • I have two Beagles (Joe and Sasha)
  • I enlisted in the Army in 1999, shortly after graduating from Columbus East High School in Columbus Ohio
  • Prior to joining the military, I grew up in Columbus where I volunteered at Grant Hospital, worked at Sears, Columbus Zoo and a short stint at the local news station WBNS 10TV (Kids News Network)
  • While serving in the military: I was a combat engineer, intelligence analyst, engineer officer, and public affairs officer
  • I served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan (totaling 41 months). I commanded a 270 Soldier unit for nearly 2 years and deployed as a platoon leader in Afghanistan
  • I successfully completed my Bachelor’s in 2004, Master’s in 2008 and Juris Doctorate in 2018
  • I was awarded a Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and medically retired in 2015
  • Shortly after retiring, I was accepted and attended the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law (fall 18’)


PTA Involvement

Current Service Includes:

  • I currently provide financial support to my local PTA, Ohio PTA and National PTA.
  • In addition, I have been working on plans to develop share-revenue between the States and National PTA

Previous Service Includes:

  • I served on the National PTA Board of Directors in 2015
  • Prior to my service on the board, I was the vice-chairman of the National PTA Resource Development Committee (RDC
  • Army involvement and resource support to PTA was the highlight of my service to RDC
  • National PTA launched Every Child in Focus, an awareness campaign to help families, educators and administrators learn more about diverse populations.

Community Involvement

Current Service includes:

  • Admissions Ambassador – University of Louisville
  • Youth Mentor at local church
  • Assists veterans with using their benefits

Previous Service Includes:

  • While serving in military I was directed to serve in several positions of influence (commanders planning group, public affairs, scholarships, events and outreach, speechwriter to commanding and deputy commanding general. Key functions included:
    • Special assistant to the commanding generals (3) directly responsible for key stakeholder/partner engagement)
    • Served as a speaker/leader representative to Steve Harvey Mentoring Foundation, Kiwanis, Jupiter Bands, Future Business Leaders of America, Music For All, NFL, Boy Scouts of America, National PTA, and others
Honors and Awards
  • Bronze Star Medal (Iraq Invasion 2003)
  • Meritorious Achievement Medal (Retirement Award)
  • Army Commendation Medal (Afganistan 2008).
  • PTA service accomplishments:
    • “National PTA Lifetime Achievement Award” in 2014.
    • Michigan State PTA “Lifetime Member” awarded in 2015. Ohio PTA “Achievement Award”.
    • Montana PTA “Achievement Award”.
    • National PTA representative in Ohio, Montana, Michigan and contributor in several other states.
