Candidate Narrative

Cindy Gerhardt

Candidate for Board Member

We all have a calling on our lives.  It is my desire to live and work within that calling.  To reach out to the family who is experiencing unstable housing.  To speak for the child whose smile masks uncertainty, hunger, shame.  To fight for every student who needs the resources to create equity in their learning experience. To stand for families who want their child to be safe in a school environment, one that is free from the potential of violence and open to students of all forms of diversity.

I want to stay engaged and serve in an association that has made historic contributions in the lives of children and families, both past and present.  I believe that to ensure ALL children have an opportunity to live a whole, safe and equitable life, we who have a voice should not be silent.  I have committed years to PTA because I trust in its relevance.

We are facing unprecedented challenges now and in the coming years.  We must make tough decisions about who we are and where we are going.  We must connect with our local leaders like never before.  While we can never replace the face-to-face experience, this last year taught us that we can reach anyone anytime, as long as our message is one that is current and valuable.

I believe that as a leader, I have exemplified our mission.  I believe in my capacity to continue both personal and professional growth.  While I have confidence in my ability to lead, I am convinced that the best leaders also know how to follow.  As a member of the National PTA Board of Directors, I will use my critical thinking skills, my ability to motivate, prioritize, listen and be decisive to move the association further than we’ve imagined.
