Candidate Narrative

Alison Turner
Candidate for Member Representative, Board of Directors

PTA is united by our legacy, by mission-driven service and advocacy, and by the strong connections we foster in all our work.

Now is the time to serve our members, our leaders, our nation. PTA is most effective when it follows the pattern I see in work with multiple non-profits:  connect | convene | contribute – what we need most during this uniquely turbulent time.

Now is the time to listen. The greatest lesson I learned in my first term as Member Representative was how many members and leaders – local, council, district, state and national – want someone to stop and listen and understand them.  National PTA needs to hear what you see, what you experience, and what you’ve learned. I want to continue listening to you, our leaders and members – I think that’s what a Member Representative does!

Now is the time to believe in PTA – our members, our leaders, and our impact in communities.  I believe in you, our passionate servant-leaders. I believe our strength lies in putting the member back in our membership association.  And I believe that internal strength allows PTA to grow stronger externally too, to continue our legacy of leadership as we convene allies for the education, welfare, safety, mental health, and physical well-being of all children.

Now is the time to serve – to serve you.  My life has provided many opportunities – some earned, many given.  My service in both non-profit and for-profit sectors is extensive, serving multiple child- and community-based non-profits in governance, on staff, and in collaboration, as well as managing resources and people in business.

I’m ready to serve you, our members and leaders.  I ask for your support so that I may again connect, contribute and serve as your Member Representative to the Board of Directors.
