Whereas, Proper immunization for preschool children is vital in the prevention of communicable diseases such as polio, measles, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough; and

Whereas, Surveys, studies, and reports since the opening of the 1975 school year indicate that the percentage of preschool children who have been fully immunized is lower than in past years; and

Whereas, Many children who do not begin this immunization series until refused entry to school under the law, are creating a clear and present hazard to themselves and to the health of very young children who may suffer serious side effects and even death from these preventable communicable diseases; therefore be it

Resolved, That the National PTA through its state PTAs/PTSAs, districts, councils, and local units disseminate information to parents concerning the importance of early immunization for preschool children and the importance of keeping accurate health records for every child; and be it further

Resolved, That the National PTA through its state branches, districts, councils, and local units support the efforts of schools to enforce immunization laws; and be it further

Resolved, That the National PTA urge all 52 state congresses to step up their activities in support of an immunization awareness program, including observance of "Immunization Action Month."
