2018 Outstanding Youth Advocate of the Year Award Nomination Form

Description:

Advocacy is the cornerstone of National PTA’smission, and advocates at every level and age play an integral role in PTA’s efforts. The involvement of our nation's youth is particularly important, as youth both provide a fresh perspective and develop skills to be the leaders of tomorrow.

National PTA presents an annual award to one young person who exemplifies the qualities of creativity, leadership, and dedication, and has positively affected policy or change in his or her school or community in a way that aligns with PTA’s mission and goals. The youth individual must be a member of a PTA or PTSA. The person chosen to receive this award will receive two all- expense paid* trips for themselves and their parent/guardian to the 2018 Legislative Conference and will be recognized at an awards ceremony on March 13 in Washington, DC.

*Expenses include and are limited to the winner's and his/her parent or guardian's round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, ground transportation, conference registration and materials, and per-diem food expenses for the approved dates.

Nomination Requirements:

The Outstanding Youth Advocate of the Year Award will be presented to a youth individual (defined as someone under 18, or still in high school at the time of nomination). The nominee must also be a current PTA member whose unit/council/district/state is in good standing. Additionally, the nominee’s advocacy efforts must have taken place within the last year and documentation of these efforts must be provided. Nominations will be reviewed by the Legislation Committee and the National PTA President. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Nominees may self-apply for consideration. Please note that as part of the process, PTA leaders may be contacted.

Complete nominations must include:

• Contact and PTA membership information for both the nominee and submitting unit;
• A brief narrative for each question below concerning the nominee's advocacy on behalf of PTA (500 words or less recommended per question);
• At least one reference with a letter of recommendation (3 maximum)
• Any additional documentation of advocacy efforts, such as Op-Eds and Letters-to-the Editor written by nominee, awards received, blog posts, etc.
