ALEXANDRIA, Va., (Oct. 6, 2022)—National PTA is pleased to announce that 10 PTAs from across the country have been selected to receive a grant from its Center for Family Engagement to help strengthen partnerships between families and schools. The grant program is part of National PTA’s efforts to update its National Standards for Family-School Partnerships to provide better support for schools and their communities as they address changes in educational and family engagement trends, shifts in community demographics, and the need for enhanced transparency and more equity-centered practices. The grant funding is made possible by PTA Proud National Sponsor GoGuardian.

The grantees are:

  • Florida PTA
  • Illinois PTA
  • New Mexico PTA
  • New York State PTA
  • Tennessee PTA
  • Utah PTA
  • Durham Council of PTAs (North Carolina)
  • Fairfax Special Education PTA & Fairfax County Council PTA (Virginia)
  • Montgomery County Council PTA (Alabama)
  • Montgomery County Council PTA (Maryland)

“There could not be a more urgent time for families and schools to work together to support our students’ success academically, socially and emotionally, and promote learning environments where students feel safe, supported and ready to learn,” said Anna King, president of National PTA. “These PTAs will play an important role in supporting schools and families across their states and districts in building successful partnerships.”

With the grant, the PTAs will collaborate with community partners, government agencies and local PTA leaders to advocate for more effective family engagement practices at the local, district and state levels.

“The updated National Standards for Family-School Partnerships will provide critical guidance and best practices for strong partnerships that will make a real impact for all students, families and schools,” said Nathan R. Monell, CAE, National PTA executive director. “We are pleased to provide funding to these PTAs to support the implementation of the Standards and strengthen family-school partnerships, which are essential to student success and school improvement efforts.”

As part of the launch of the updated Standards, National PTA will host a special briefing on Capitol Hill to discuss the need to strengthen, clarify and provide further guidance on the nation’s education policies. During the briefing, the association will also outline its key policy priorities related to this work and urge Congress to support these measures so all children can have access to what they need to reach their full potential. Additionally, National PTA will host a virtual townhall Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. EST in conjunction with National Parent Involvement Month. The townhall will be streamed live on National PTA’s Facebook page and Twitter and YouTube accounts.
