ALEXANDRIA, Va., (Oct. 3, 2022)—The following statement can be attributed to National PTA President Anna King and Florida PTA President Carolyn Nelson-Goedert:

“National PTA and Florida PTA are deeply concerned for those affected by Hurricane Ian. While so many of us have been watching the coverage of the damage caused by the storm, it pales in comparison to the reality of loss and uncertainty the communities and families impacted are experiencing. Our association stands with everyone impacted, and we are committed to supporting their well-being as they recover and their efforts to rebuild.

“For 125 years, PTA has empowered families with knowledge, tools and resources and helped families, schools and communities navigate challenges. We strongly encourage everyone who can to donate to our Disaster Relief Fund, which provides financial assistance to local PTA units and other school communities that face crises that grievously disrupt students' lives and their education. Through the fund, grants of $500 are available to local PTAs/PTSAs and grants of $100 are available to school communities not affiliated with PTA. We also encourage those in need of mental health support to visit PTA.org/HealthyMinds for free tools and resources.

“PTAs nationwide work hard every day to ensure our students, families and educators are safe, healthy and have what they need. We are committed to doing everything we can to assist those affected by Hurricane Ian and help restore communities and learning environments as quickly as possible.”
