ALEXANDRIA, Va., (June 18, 2020)—The following statement can be attributed to National PTA President Leslie Boggs:

“National PTA applauds the U.S. Supreme Court for ruling that the administration cannot end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. National PTA has long believed that every child residing in the United States—regardless of their immigration status—has the right of access to a high-quality public education, adequate food and shelter, and basic health care services. Ensuring that all children, including immigrant children, have the opportunity to reach their full potential is in the best interest of our nation.

“The United States began as a country of immigrants and the resulting blend of cultures has enriched our nation for over two hundred years. The 800,000 DACA recipients are productive members of society and have and continue to make significant contributions to our schools, businesses and communities. They also provide diverse perspectives that are propelling progress. We applaud the Supreme Court for recognizing, valuing and embracing the diversity of our nation.

"This has been a very stressful time for DACA recipients and their families. We celebrate the peace of mind this decision brings and the clear pathway it creates for them to pursue their dreams.

“National PTA filed an amicus brief with the National Education Association in support of the DACA program. Our association remains committed to raising our voice for DACA recipients and their families. Their future depends on it and our nation’s future will benefit from their continued contributions.”
