Event to feature performances and an exhibit of student artwork

WHAT

National PTA and the U.S. Department of Education will host a ceremony Monday, Jan. 13 to recognize students from across the country for their talents and creativity in the arts. The event will feature remarks from National PTA and U.S. Department of Education leadership, as well as student performances. It will also include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and an exhibit viewing of artwork created by the more than 200 honorees of the 2018-2019 National PTA Reflections program, themed “Heroes Around Me.”

Each year, the National PTA Reflections program encourages students of all ages to create and submit original works of art in the medium of their choice—dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography or visual arts—that reflect on the annual theme. Submissions are reviewed by visual, literary and performing arts experts, and students are recognized for their artistic ingenuity in bringing the theme to life. For over 50 years, the National PTA Reflections program has helped millions of students embrace their creative side; explore their thoughts, feelings and ideas; develop artistic literacy; increase their confidence and find a love for learning that helps them succeed in school and in life.
