ALEXANDRIA, Va., (Feb. 13, 2019)—PTAs and schools across the country will host a variety of events and activities Feb. 10-17 to celebrate family engagement in education as part of National PTA’s Take Your Family to School Week. The timing of the week honors the day PTA was founded, Feb. 17, 1897.

“For over 120 years, National PTA has been encouraging families to get more involved in their child’s education as family engagement has a positive impact on student success,” said Jim Accomando, president of National PTA. “Take Your Family to School Week reinforces PTA’s long legacy of family engagement and is designed to provide families an opportunity to visit their child’s school, encourage them to get more involved in their education and strengthen partnerships between parents and teachers.”

This school year, 15 local PTAs were selected to receive grants to host family engagement events during Take Your Family to School Week in the following program areas:

  • Health and Safety
  • Literacy
  • Digital Learning
  • STEM

The grants were made possible by support from PTA Proud National Sponsor Office Depot.

“Family engagement is essential to make a difference for the education, health, safety and long-term success of every child,” said Nathan R. Monell, CAE, National PTA executive director. “We are grateful to Office Depot for supporting our efforts and the efforts of PTAs across the country to increase and strengthen family engagement.”

Also as part of Take Your Family to School Week, National PTA will share tips and resources on social media and at through its Center for Family Engagement initiative. The resources will help parents support their child’s success and help PTA leaders take their family engagement work to the next level.
