National PTA and New Jersey PTA Statement on Fatal Bus Accident in Paramus

ALEXANDRIA, Va., (May 18, 2018)National PTA President Jim Accomando and New Jersey PTA President Rose Acerra issued the following statement regarding the school bus accident that occurred in Paramus, N.J.:

“National PTA and New Jersey PTA extend our deepest sympathies and full support to East Brook Middle School PTA and the students, families, teachers and administrators at East Brook Middle School. Our hearts go out to everyone impacted, including the family of the teacher killed in the accident, who was a PTA member.

“It remains a top priority of PTA to promote safety for children and youth—during the school day and while traveling to and from school and school-sponsored activities. This accident brings to the forefront the need for families, educators, community leaders and policymakers to come together to find the most effective ways to ensure that all children get to and from school and school activities safely.

“National PTA, New Jersey PTA and PTAs across the country are committed to assisting families, schools and communities in preventing such tragedies and keeping all children safe.”
