Discussion to take place during PTA Take Your Family to School Week

What

More than 40 years of research shows that when families are engaged and families and schools work together, student achievement increases, schools improve and communities grows stronger. As part of their efforts to strengthen family engagement in education and build family-school partnerships, National PTA and California State PTA will bring together state and local parent and education leaders on Thursday, Feb. 19 at the Los Angeles County Office of Education for a discussion on the need for increased collaboration among families, educators and administrators to support student success and school improvement.

As California implements major education reforms, including the new Local Control Funding Formula law, new standards and assessments, and a new accountability system, family engagement and family-school partnerships are more important than ever. The forum also will include discussion on effective, meaningful ways families and schools can work together to ensure successful implementation of these important reforms. 

The discussion is being held in conjunction with National PTA’s Take Your Family to School Week. The weeklong initiative is designed to encourage families to visit their children’s school and spotlight the importance of partnerships among parents, teachers and administrators to student success and school improvement. The timing of the week—Feb. 16-20, 2015—honors the day PTA was founded: Feb. 17, 1897.
