ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Sept. 19, 2013) — Colorado PTA and National PTA, with support from the network of PTAs across the country and overseas, commit to help restore the communities affected by the deadly floods.

“Colorado PTA and National PTA extend their sympathies to the children, families and communities affected by the floods in Colorado,” said Otha Thornton, National PTA President. “As America’s oldest and largest child advocacy association, it is our duty to help restore learning environments and support families and educators as communities rebuild. In response to the severe weather, we are drawing closer together to assist the moms, dads, teachers, administrators and children impacted. Our mission, following this type of tragedy, simply becomes that much more important.”

According to the Colorado Office of Emergency Management, the floods have damaged or destroyed approximately 19,000 residences in 17 counties. More than 200 people remain unaccounted for, and the floods have been blamed for six deaths. A number of schools also have been affected by the floods.

To support the communities impacted, financial donations can be made to Colorado PTA. Funds collected will be utilized to enhance the lives of every child through school and community programs and enrichment. Checks can be mailed to the Colorado PTA office at 7859 W 38th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
