Leading child advocacy association enlists global travel provider to create leadership education program in Washington, D.C.

ALEXANDRIA, VA. (October 18, 2012) – The National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) announced today that it will be working with People to People Ambassador Programs, the leader in global educational travel experiences, to provide an educational program geared to promising future leaders.

The PTA Future Leaders Forum will bring together middle school students from around the nation in Washington, D.C., for an opportunity to learn about American civics and social responsibility while emphasizing key PTA values and priorities like diversity and inclusion, community service, and advocacy. The content, logistics, and execution of the forum will be delivered by People to People Ambassador Programs, which has a long history of providing educational leadership programs to students.

Through this program collaboration, the first of its kind for PTA, students will meet notable leaders, learn the significance of national historical sites and institutions, build leadership skills, give back through community-service projects, participate in diversity-awareness training, and learn how to effect change through advocacy.

“National PTA is excited to offer this opportunity to the children of our millions of members through People to People Ambassador Programs. We pride ourselves on providing families with resources that help children receive the best education and experiences our nation has to offer. We believe this special program is truly a valuable resource for families,” said Betsy Landers, National PTA President.

People to People Ambassador Programs has offered student educational programs for 50 years and has brought thousands of students to Washington, D.C., from both the United States and abroad.

“This is a natural partnership for us,” said Peg Thomas, President of People to People Ambassador Programs. “Our programs are a perfect fit to provide the children of PTA members the opportunity to get a great educational experience outside the classroom and develop their leadership skills.”

The PTA Future Leaders Forum is available to students in the 5th–8th grades throughout the United States. It will be offered through local PTAs, and students from a wide variety of backgrounds are encouraged to apply. More information can be found at
