Convention to bring together parents, educators, administrators, policymakers and thought leaders from across the country to discuss key issues impacting children, families, schools and communities
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (April 18, 2014) — National PTA® is pleased to announce that U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will headline the association’s 2014 Annual National PTA Convention and Exhibition, addressing attendees on Friday, June 20 at the Convention Center in Austin, Texas.
“Under Secretary Duncan’s leadership at the Department of Education, a number of significant accomplishments have been made on behalf of American students,” said Otha Thornton, president of National PTA. “The National PTA Convention and Exhibition is an important event for information sharing and discussing key issues impacting children, families, schools and communities. We are honored to have Secretary Duncan participate in this year’s Convention.”
Secretary Duncan has helped to secure congressional support for investments in education and interventions in low-performing schools. He also has helped to secure funding for early learning programs. Additionally, under his leadership, the Department of Education has developed a family and community-engagement framework to support schools and districts nationwide in establishing and strengthening family-school partnerships to increase student achievement.
As part of his address during the 2014 Annual National PTA Convention and Exhibition, Secretary Duncan will conduct a question and answer session with attendees.
The 2014 Annual National PTA Convention and Exhibition will be held from June 19-22 at the Austin Convention Center. In addition to hearing from Secretary Duncan and other speakers during the event, attendees will participate in a wide variety of workshops, including sessions on advocating for every child, enhancing leadership, growing schools of excellence and empowering a generation of good digital citizens. The Convention also will feature an Emerging Minority Leaders Conference, Youth Leadership Summit and a Male Engagement Forum.
