Parent and Education Leaders to Convene in Orlando for 2016 Annual National PTA Convention & Expo

WHAT:
Thousands of parent and education leaders from across the country will come together Thursday, June 29 through Sunday, July 3 at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort for the 2016 Annual National PTA Convention & Expo. During the conference, attendees will hear from policymakers, education professionals and experts in the field; participate in workshops and trainings; and discuss key issues impacting children, families, schools and communities. The convention is designed to inspire and empower participants with big ideas to strengthen family engagement in education and take action to make a difference for the lives and futures of every child.

U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr.; physician, engineer, NASA astronaut and science literacy advocate Dr. Mae C. Jemison; 2016 National Teacher of the Year Jahana Hayes; and New York Times best-selling author Julie Lythcott-Haims will keynote the event. Attendees also will hear from National PTA President Laura Bay and National PTA Executive Director Nathan R. Monell, CAE.

The convention will feature an African American Family Engagement Symposium with panel discussions on the issues and barriers that challenge the academic achievement of students of color and the use of meaningful family and community engagement as a tool to improve student success. Additionally, the convention will include an Awards and Reflections Celebration, during which students from across the country will be recognized for letting their imaginations fly through the arts.
