• The 110th annual convention was held in Phoenix, Arizona (2006) and the 111th convention was held in St. Louis, Missouri, (2007).

Highlights

• PTA families from across the country, as well as visits from the National PTA president made a difference in the lives of children and families affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in our Southern states.  One principal from Texas remarked, “Katrina showed us how to give, Rita showed us how to receive."
  
  
• “Take Your Family to School Week” began in 2006 to encourage parents to go to their schools and become involved.  
  
  
• The new “National Standards for Family-School Partnerships” moved PTA forward with cutting edge research by Anne Henderson and her colleagues to create a set of measurable standards for schools to promote family involvement.  
  
  
• The first Minority Leadership Conference was attended by many new leaders, the Reflections Exhibit for the first time was displayed in the U.S. Department of Education, “PTA Back to School Kit” was sent out to every unit,  NPTA sponsored a Back to School Media briefing in New York City, held a Grass Roots Advocacy Week and the 2007 convention delegates elected the first “dad” as National PTA president-elect.
