Tony Shivers was elected to the National PTA Board of Directors as a member representative and brings 20 years of experience as a government affairs professional at the federal, state, and local levels of government. Mr. Shivers’ passion is in education and ensuring that our nation’s students are prepared for the global economy whatever path they may choose as education was one of the primary factors to his professional success.
Mr. Shivers is president/CEO of Shivers Consulting that provides government affairs, value-added services to nonprofit and community-based organizations, particularly in the Northern Virginia area. Mr. Shivers also worked for and represented various nonprofit organizations and trade associations in the Washington, DC area, including United Way Worldwide, the National Association of State Boards of Education, the National Association of Federally Impacted Schools, and the Council for a Strong America.
Mr. Shivers is involved in the PTA at all levels, including his local unit, Armstrong ES PTA in Reston, Virginia, and doing advocacy work for the Fairfax County Council of PTAs and the Virginia PTA. Mr. Shivers is also an appointed member of the Minority Student Achievement Oversight Committee under the Fairfax County School Board, which oversees the 10th largest school system in the nation.
Tony received his B.S. in Political Science from the Pennsylvania State University and completed his legal studies at Kaplan University Concord School of Law. He is also a former education policy fellow with the Institute for Educational leadership.
Tony hails from Wilmington, North Carolina and is married to Catherine, a national board certified teacher in the Fairfax County, Virginia school system. They are proud parents of two active boys, Bennett and Brayden.
