Melissa S. Nehrbass
Melissa Nehrbass was elected to the National PTA Board of Directors in 2010. She currently serves on the Military Family Support Committee and Leadership Coach Team for National PTA and is the recipient of a National PTA Lifetime Achievement Award. In her 27 years of PTA involvement, Melissa has served on the state, district, council, and local level in various leadership positions. She served as Virginia PTA President and was the recipient of a Virginia PTA Lifetime Membership Award and President’s Honor Award. In 2007, she received a commendation of service from the Virginia House of Delegates. Melissa also served on multiple committees and task forces for the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Virginia Department of Education, and Newport News public schools. She also is a leader in her church and community recreation association, as well as serving with the Girl Scouts for 12 years. Melissa is a district director for Virginia PTA in Newport News, Va. and serves on the board of her community elementary school PTA. She also volunteers with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) advocating for children in the foster care system. She is married to Brian, a shipbuilding engineer and they have three adult daughters and seven grandchildren. In their spare time, they enjoy sailing.
