Program Events: Start the Art Week |
![]() © Sxc.hu The arts are an expression of beauty, a mode of self-expression, a means to explore other cultures and viewpoints. But more than that, the arts are a way to build self-esteem, teach critical skills, and boost student achievement. Arts education can enhance children’s personal, social, and intellectual development. Unfortunately, the arts are far too often overlooked in the school curriculum—and left out altogether when budgets get tight. PTA Start the Art Week, October 6-11, 2008, is an opportunity to provide your school’s students with arts experiences. It’s also an ideal time to inform families of the benefits of arts education and gain the support of the community. Show your PTA’s commitment to arts education by observing PTA Start the Art Week with a one-day event or a weeklong celebration.
