Information PTA Collects
When you apply for membership, PTA asks for basic information, such as your name, street address, and e-mail address. Your participation in PTA activities and member services also is tracked to help PTA better understand member interests and evaluate the effectiveness of our offerings. PTA also collects demographic information from other sources to learn more about member characteristics and needs. As explained in the Questions and Answers below, PTA may ask for additional information when you visit www.pta.org. All of this information helps PTA better serve members and improve programs.
Information Sharing
PTA does not sell or rent member information to telemarketers, mailing list brokers, or other companies. Sponsors and member benefits providers do receive limited and restricted opportunities to communicate to our members; however, all mailings are reviewed and approved by PTA and sent through a 3rd party mail house, which is required to sign a confidentiality statement that the lists will be used for a one-time mailing and cannot be shared with anyone. Our sponsors and member benefit providers never see the list or have direct access to it. PTA does not allow sponsors to solicit members under the age of 18, when designated as such. PTA may also disclose member information when required to do so by law or when such action is necessary or appropriate to comply with legal process served on the national organization, to protect and defend the rights or property of PTA, or to protect the personal safety of users of the PTA website. PTA reserves the right to contact the appropriate authorities when visitors' activities appear to be illegal or inconsistent with PTA policies.
Finally, PTA may sometimes share aggregate statistics and non-personal information with the media, government agencies, advertisers, and other third parties. For example, PTA may publish statistics on the number of members in various states, or the number of visitors to www.pta.org. These aggregate statistics do not identify member names or other personal information.
Secure Transactions
In order to protect your personal information, PTA uses technologies and processes, such as encryption, access control procedures, network firewalls, physical security, and other safety measures. All e-commerce transactions conducted on www.pta.org are secured by the Verisign® secure site program. This program is designed to encrypt information submitted to www.pta.org during a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) session, protecting it against disclosure to third parties.
