Add to My ArticlesNavigating the Children's Media Landscape Cable in the Classroom Guide

Research shows 36 percent of young children have televisions in their bedrooms and children are spending more time in front of 'screens' than outside playing. The challenge for today's parents is greater than ever as children are exposed to seemingly limitless media contact. That's why National PTA and Cable in the Classroom produced a guide to help parents navigate the ever-changing media environment with their children.

The guide provides parents:

  • Clear, flexible guidelines to navigate the media environment
  • Facts about the positive and negative influences media may have on children's learning, behavior, and health
  • Findings of academic literature, insights of experts, and input from parents and children
  • Six-step strategy for developing a family media plan

Navigating the Children's Media Landscape: A Parent's and Caregiver's Guide is available in a downloadable PDF format. Additional information can be found on the Control Your TV website.

Navigating the Children's Media Landscape: A Parent's and Caregiver's Guide is the latest chapter in National PTA's 10-year media literacy collaboration with Cable in the Classroom and the National Cable Television Association to provide parents with tools to take charge of their TVs.
