ALEXANDRIA, VA. (Nov. 22, 2016)—The following statement can be attributed to National PTA President Laura Bay:

“National PTA is deeply saddened to learn of the school bus accident in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Association extends its deepest sympathies and full support to the students, families, teachers and administrators at Woodmore Elementary School.

“As America’s oldest and largest child advocacy association, it is a top priority of National PTA to work with administrators and local, state and federal lawmakers to ensure the safety of all children during the school day and while traveling to and from school. Our mission, following this type of tragedy, simply becomes that much more important.

“This accident brings to the forefront the need for families, teachers, administrators, community leaders and elected officials to come together to find the most effective ways to ensure that all children get to and from school safely. National PTA is committed to assisting families, schools and communities in preventing such tragedies and keeping all children safe.

“As many families gather this week to celebrate Thanksgiving, we know that hearts are heavy in Chattanooga. National PTA stands with Tennessee PTA and the Woodmore Elementary School PTA in their efforts to support the students, families and educators affected by this tragedy.”
