CHICAGO (Thursday, November 15, 2007)—California educators will launch the first California Family Involvement Day recognition today at Will C. Wood Middle School, Sacramento. Organizers expect to conduct the event statewide every year to create awareness about the importance of parent engagement in their children’s education and to thank parents for staying involved.

Launch of first California Family Involvement Day Recognition

When:

Thursday, Nov. 15
8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.—Principal James Wong and staff serve pancake breakfast to parents

9:30 a.m.-10 a.m.—Recognition ceremony for students who have read a million words or more since the start of school and students who have read 100,000 words or more and students who participated in Red Ribbon Week activities

10 a.m.—News conference with dignitaries; parents and students
