PTA Energizing San Diego Community to Head Back-to-School
Part of national effort to involve families in education
CHICAGO (August 24, 2007)–It’s the most important time of the school year for families... Back-to-School! That’s why tomorrow PTA is in San Diego to provide PTA back-to-school resources for families that need them most.
FREE BACK-TO-SCHOOL RESOURCES; 2:30 – 6:00 p.m.
Tomorrow, PTA will distribute more than 1,500 resources during the “Everybody Recommitting to Academic Achievement (New ERAA) Back-to-School Conference and Festival.” in San Diego. Giveaways include school supplies for kids, personal care products for parents, and PTA’s new Parent’s Guide to Healthy Lifestyles.
LEADING THE WALK FOR EDUCATION; 2:00 – 2:30 p.m.
PTA National President Jan Harp Domene (of Anaheim, Calif.) will lead the Walk for Education from Lincoln Park High School to the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA. Thousands of San Diego families are expected to participate, calling attention to the importance of quality education.
SPEAKING OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT; 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
The conference features a dynamic line-up of education experts and parenting workshops. Headlining the conference is PTA’s National President Domene, who will speak about the positive effect that involvement has on a child’s academic achievement. Other speakers include Dr. Carl Cohn, Superintendent of San Diego Unified School District; Dr. Randy Ward, San Diego County Superintendent of Schools; and Sheila Jackson, San Diego Unified District School Board Member.
This back-to-school event is part of PTA’s national campaign to reenergize and prepare all families as they head back into the classroom with a focus on the involvement of parents in their child’s education.
