PTA’s National Convention and Exhibition is This Weekend
What’s going on? What do I need to know?
Next week, St. Louis families, parents, and teachers will join more than 1,200 Parent Teacher Association (PTA) members and other child advocates from across the country for the 111th Annual National PTA Convention and Exhibition. The event will be held at the Cervantes Convention Center at America’s Center, 701 Convention Plaza, on June 29 – July 1.
MAKING HISTORY – SUNDAY, JULY 1
American history will be made next week when PTA will, for the first time ever, install a father as its national president-elect. Charles J. “Chuck” Saylors, a father of four (two currently in elementary school) and a long-time PTA member, begins this historic journey on Sunday, July 1. He will hold the position of president-elect for two years, after which he will be installed as the first man to serve as the organization’s national president.
PARENTS EXPO – SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
St. Louis families and parents are invited to get the hottest parenting advice on topics like healthy eating and saving for college at the first-ever national Parent Expo on Saturday, June 30. The event will feature almost 200 exhibitors and fun games for kids and families. The first 2,000 attendees will receive a complimentary gift pack. The Parent Expo is open to everyone for no charge.
WALK FOR HEALTHY KIDS – DOWNTOWN, SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 6:30 a.m.
St. Louis parents and families will take to the streets to call attention to child health and wellness as part of the 3rd Annual PTA National Walk for Healthy Kids. The 5K walk begins at the Gateway Arch Grounds, which will serve as the start and finish area. There is a $25 registration fee to participate in the walk.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER & CELEBRATING THE ARTS
- Craig Scott – he was in the library the day of the Columbine tragedy, where he witnessed 10 of his schoolmates killed. Since then, he has gone on to speak out to educate children and adults with his inspiring and life-changing story.
Friday, June 29; 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (During General Meeting 1) - Celebrating the Arts, Celebrating Children –PTA will honor six students as Outstanding Interpretation Award recipients for the 2006-2007 arts program. The program addresses the need for all children to have access to art.
