Highlighting the Link between Learning and Good Health
What parents can do to ensure better health, performance
CHICAGO (October 28, 2006)—As most parents and childhood experts know, poor eating habits and lack of physical activity are the main causes of childhood obesity. These habits also can have a detrimental affect on academic performance. The newest issue of PTA’s national magazine, Our Children, features articles that inform parents and families about important topics such as these. From the newest video games that help keep children fit to improving air quality in schools, this issue contains the latest on keeping children healthy at home and at school. The magazine also continues its “blast from the past” section during its centennial year and revisits PTA’s important role in polio research during the 1950s.
Feature articles from the October/November issue include:
- The Learning Connection: Better Health, Better Performance
By Alicia Moag-Stahlberg - Exergames: Video Games that Keep Players Fit!
By Marilyn Ferdinand - Clearing the Air in Schools
By Ellie Goldberg - Reading TV: Simple Techniques Parents Can Use to Make TV Time Thinking Time
By Gloria DeGaetano (available in the print version of Our Children)
A look ahead ... the next issue of Our Children highlights the role parents can play in advocating for the arts in their schools.
