PTA celebrated Start the Art Week during the week of October 9 as part of National Arts & Humanities Month. The weeklong celebration was a national initiative to inspire students to participate in the arts and keep arts in schools. PTA believes that all children deserve a quality arts education and provides you information on how to become an advocate for the arts and how to start a Reflections program at your school. More than 200 students from Aldridge Elementary School in Chicago, IL, celebrated Start the Art Week with parents, teachers, and PTA leaders.

Students created works of art, took self-portraits, and enjoyed interactive exhibits at the Chicago Children’s Museum.

Students from Aldridge Elementary School use their imaginations as they paint and draw on their faces and arms.

Illinois PTA Arts & Education Chair Sylvia Tarchala creates a unique structure with children in the “Inventing Lab”

More than 120 students took part in “Images of Africa”, an Urban Gateways touring performance. Local artists led student workshops on African dancing, drumming, and proverbs.

Chicago artist Amaniyea Payne taught Aldridge students dance styles from various African cultures.
