Definitions for Cooperating Organizations List

Together, we can achieve more.
National PTA works in collaboration with other national education, health, safety, and child advocacy groups and federal agencies. This allows National PTA to further its mission and bring a wide range resources and expertise to its members. Through its many relationships, National PTA is able to take on a broader scope of issues of concern to today’s families, schools, and communities.

The following definitions explain the three types of collaborative relationships entered into by National PTA.

Partnership:
A National PTA Partnership involves a specific, needed effort with an outside entity and an agreed upon outcome. A partnership will always require a signed memorandum of understanding. All memorandums of understanding are cleared through National PTA legal counsel and signed off on by the Deputy Executive Director or CEO.

Alliance:
A National PTA Alliance involves a relationship with one or more organizations in which PTA is working in conjunction with the groups. In an alliance there is not always individual alignment or specific agreement among alliance members, but an intent to work toward common goals and compatible efforts.

Cooperating Organization:
A National PTA Cooperating Organization is an outside entity working together with PTA on a single or specific project or issue. Neither the work nor the relationship has yet to develop to an alliance or partnership level.
