PTA Take Your Family to School Week
February 10-16, 2008
Father Involvement Tools
When PTA asks all families to participate in Take Your Family to School Week, we
extend the invitation to every member of those families—and that definitely includes
dads. Many of our fathers say they can't be more involved in the school because of
a lack of time. Let's use this week to show them what's possible with the time they
do have. Often, all it takes is an hour for a parent to show a child how important
education is.
Reading a book to a class, visiting a child for lunch, or working at a book fair are all activities that bring fathers into the school community but require minimal time commitments. And it's not just dads who can help our kids succeed. Grandfathers, uncles, older brothers, and other male role models can get involved, too.
PTA Take Your Family to School Week is an important celebration for the entire family to participate in. I urge
you and your membership chair to use these tools to show dads and other men
that getting involved in a
child's education is something they can and should do.
Let's get dads to work—in our schools!
Sincerely,
Charles J. Saylors
PTA National President-Elect and Membership Chair
