Whereas, Over the last five years, funding for federal children's programs has been cut; and

Whereas, During the same period, the deficit has quadrupled because of decreases in federal revenues along with increases in funding for certain federal programs and continued governmental waste; and

Whereas, Funding for education and other programs for children should be a top priority of the federal government because these programs are investments in the future of this nation; therefore be it

Resolved, That the National PTA Board of Directors urges the United States Congress to accomplish needed deficit reductions by increasing federal revenues, cutting funding for non-child-related federal programs and eliminating governmental waste, rather than by cutting funding for children's programs, which have already sustained deep cuts and which are so essential to the current well-being and future prosperity and security of this nation.
