Otha Thornton was appointed to serve a two-year term as an at-large board member. Thornton serves on the Membership, Legislative, and Executive Search Committees.
Thornton brings over 10 years of PTA experience to the board. He is past president of Meade Senior High School PTSA and currently serving as vice president. He is very active in the educational arena and served on Anne Arundel County’s Superintendent High Performing High School Task Force and appointed by Governor of Maryland to serve on a 2006-2007 Maryland Education Task Force.
Thornton graduated from Morehouse College with a BA in Urban Studies and received a Masters in Technical Communications from Michigan Technological University. He is also active with the following organizations: an Elder at the Laurel Church of Church of Christ; a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Advisor for Troop 712; D.C. Morehouse Alumni Association, Recruiting Committee Member; and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. He is an active duty United States Army Officer and currently serves as Director of Human Resources at the White House Communications Agency.
Thornton and his wife Caryn have a daughter attending Spelman College and a son in high school.
