Joanne E. Dunne
Joanne Dunne is President of her own firm, The Lyons Consulting Group which she formed in 2005. She recently completed a three-year interim assignment as Executive Director of the National Council of Catholic Women in Arlington, Va. where she conducted and led a turnaround. She is a strategic, transformative, creative executive with expertise in growing organizations from good to great.
She specializes in working with nonprofit boards of directors and both nonprofit associations and organizations through strategic and organizational assessment, and restructuring. She focuses on growing and transforming nonprofits through a combined approach of bottom-line financial growth, enhanced partnerships and network building, and smart talent management. Joanne has over 30 years of experience as a nonprofit association executive and is a certified association executive (CAE).
Key successful consulting engagements included leading the start-up and launch of a sustainable healthcare trade association from the ground up (now a $2+ million organization), assessing and implementing a complete staff re-organization for a 100+ staff, $135 million government funded nonprofit, and restructuring a 40-staff professional healthcare association with a foundation and for-profit subsidiary among other projects.
Joanne has held CEO and senior management positions for a wide range of national and international associations, including healthcare, government, military and management organizations. She has worked in all areas of association management, including membership, marketing, education and conferences as well as finance, government relations and communications and publications. Joanne speaks frequently at conferences and seminars, and facilitates strategic planning sessions, board retreats and brand marketing strategy sessions for clients’ boards of directors and staff.
Joanne is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and was a founding member and served as chair of the ASAE Consultants Advisory Council. Joanne is also a member of the “CEO Group,” an exclusive, invitation-only group for CEOs in the Washington, DC area that began more than 10 years ago and meets monthly. She is a member of the University Club of Washington, DC and currently serves on the Membership Development Committee, the Finance Committee and the Building Committee.
Joanne attended Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y. and has a Bachelor's of arts degree in English literature. She currently serves as class agent for the Hobart & William Smith Capital Campaign and is a member of the Wheeler Society. She lives in Arlington, Va. and has two grown children.
