Digital Communications Specialist

The nation's largest child advocacy association, National PTA, currently has an opening for a Digital Communications Specialist located in Alexandria, Virginia. The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for the development and execution of integrated email marketing and social networking strategies to improve member awareness and engagement in National PTA programs and initiatives.

The specialist will write and edit e-newsletter articles and social media content; produce photo shoots, galleries, slideshows and videos; and manage digital communications plans. The specialist will collaborate with all departments and staff members along with volunteer contributors and paid consultants and vendors. 

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Specialist, Digital Communications will include but are not limited to:

  • Produce (write, edit, design, deliver) e-newsletters on biweekly, monthly and bimonthly schedules
  • Develop and manage e-blast strategy and schedule
  • Manage social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube) strategy
  • Manage photography and videography projects with support from consultants and vendors, including photo shoots, photo galleries, slideshows and videos
  • Catalog photographs and videos for historical and organizational purposes
  • Support communications and marketing planning; develop and document promotional strategies and timelines
  • Support website postings
  • Report e-newsletter, e-blast and social media metrics
  • Educate staff and volunteers on digital communications
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, advocacy or marketing
  • Five+ years of experience as a communications professional, preferred
  • Experience contracting with and managing consultants and corporate vendors preferred
  • Experience working for a nonprofit or advocacy-focused organization preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Superior writing and editing skills; knowledge of AP style
  • Evolving mastery of professional e-marketing and popular social media platforms
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and content management systems as well as video production and desktop publishing software
  • Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, work environment
  • Proven experience working with limited budgets and demanding deadlines
  • Team player with good listening skills and “can-do” attitude
  • Ability to collaborate with employees and volunteers with tact and efficiency
  • Self-motivated; strives for flawless execution and researches new techniques
  • Excellent organization, presentation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel out of state for business meetings 1-3 times each year
