Susan Lipman pictureSusan Lipman was elected to the National PTA Board of Directors in June 2012. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she currently lives in West Islip, NY on Long Island. Susan obtained her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from St. John’s University, a master’s degree from Adelphi University and is a New York State N-6 certified teacher. She taught in city parochial schools before starting her family.

She has held leadership positions at the local unit, council, region and state levels over the years, culminating with service as the New York State PTA President from 2008-2010. She continues to participate at all those levels in support and advisory capacities.

Elected in 2005, she remains a member of the Eastern Suffolk BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) Board of Education. She is also the first Vice President of R.E.F.I.T. Susan’s community involvement included years as a religious education teacher, participation with her daughter’s Girl Scout troop, as a Boy Scout merit badge counselor and committee chairperson for her son’s troop where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

With a commitment to education and the health and well-being of children, Susan draws on her upbringing, personal educational experiences and professional background in passionately advocating for the best educational opportunities for every child.

Susan’s husband, Jay, is a financial advisor and insurance representative with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. They have two adult children, Timothy and Sarah, and their first grandchild on the way.
