Shannon Sevier was born in Hawaii and graduated cum laude from Hawaii Preparatory Academy. Sevier earned a B.A. in biology from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. During her term at the University of Puget Sound, Sevier was awarded a teaching assistantship her last two years. Sevier earned a second interdisciplinary B.A. in social science from Washington State University just before moving with her family to South Carolina. While in Charleston, She obtained a Master of Arts in teaching from the College of Charleston; working her first year as a graduate assistant and finally as the Associate Registrar of the University. Sevier then moved to Texas where she worked at Trinity University as Assistant Registrar and was granted entry into St. Mary’s School of Law. During her term there Sevier was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship for leadership and the Pro Bono Service Award for community service in the field of family law. She also carried a clerkship for the last two years of her program in the field of education law, and clerked for the Texas State Attorney General’s office. Sevier currently teaches business law and ethics for the University of Maryland. She is licensed to practice law federally and in the state of Texas.
Sevier has been an active community volunteer for over 20 years and a PTA member for over 11 years. She currently serves on the National PTA Board of Directors and on the European PTA Executive Board as the Vice President for Legislation. She also has a seat on the Department of Defense Dependent Schools Europe Advisory Council (2009–2013). Sevier was elected in June 2009 and June 2010 to serve one-year terms as President of the European Congress. Sevier served as President of Grafenwoehr Elementary School PTA (2008–2009), and Secretary of Grafenwoehr/Netzaberg Middle School (2007–2009). She has also served as Reflections Chair and Scholarship Chair at the congress level.
Along with PTA commitments, Sevier has been on the Board of the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo ”Go Rodeo” Committee and has volunteered with the Texas Valero Open. Sevier is also active in the Grafenwoehr Spouses’ Club chairing the Welfare Committee, serving as Vendor Chair of the Crown Jewel Bazaar, and on various other event committees. She was celebrated as Volunteer of the Year for USAG Grafenwoehr (2010) and Volunteer of the Year for the Grafenwoehr Community and Spouses Club (2010). Sevier is married to her husband, Carl, an Army veteran. They currently reside in Mantel, Germany and have a blended family of five children.
