Although her two children are grown, Debra Strauss’ passion for PTA’s mission continues as she works on behalf of her three grandsons and the rest of the nation’s 55.5 million pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade students. Strauss is well prepared to serve National PTA. She is a recent past president of Illinois PTA (2009-2011) and formerly chaired the state PTA’s Legislation and Leadership Development committees. She was also the president of the Northwest Suburban Council PTA/PTSA and lPum Grove Jr. High PTSA in Rolling Meadows, Illinois.
Strauss serves Illinois families as a member of the Governor’s P-20 Council and cochair of the council’s Family, Youth, and Community Engagement Committee. She also is an advisory board member of Illinois Parent Information Resource Center (PIRC) and a member of the Illinois State Report Card Committee. She has served the Board Secretary, Township High School District 211 Board of Education in various capacities, including president (2003-2007).
A graduate of Michigan State University, Strauss has a bachelor’s degree in child development and education. She is currently chair of the Building Bridges Fundraising campaign for The Bridge Youth and Family Services in Palatine, Illinois.
