Dee Jones has been a PTA member and leader at every level. Her PTA career began in 1995 at Irving Elementary School in Hammond, Indiana, after her son Brandon entered kindergarten. A Title 1 Family/Community Involvement Facilitator at the school, she served as President, 1st Vice President, Treasurer, and on numerous committees for Irving/Hammond Council PTA.
Currently the National PTA Diversity Committee Chair, Jones is a former Legislative Committee Chair. A past president of the Indiana PTA—the first African American to serve in that role—Jones now serves as vice president of the state congress’ Northwest Region and is also its federal Legislative chair. Jones is also President of Hammond High PTSA and a member of “Bot Boosters” supporting Hammond’s FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Robotics Team #71.
In Indiana, Jones also serves on a variety of boards and committees, including the North Central Accreditation State Council, the Indiana Title 1 Committee of Practitioners and the Hammond Education Foundation.
