National PTA Releases Issue Brief on Effective Partnerships between PIRCs and PTAs

7/24/2009

CHICAGO (July 24, 2009) – Today, the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) released an issue brief, called Model Partnerships: Leveraging Resources and Capacity for PIRCs and PTAs, that highlights some of the most effective collaborations between state PTAs and Parent Information Resource Centers (PIRCs).

PTA is the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer advocacy organization that works to provide parents, families, and educators tools and resources needed to build strong family-school partnerships to improve student achievement.

PIRCs help implement successful and effective parental involvement policies, programs, and activities that lead to improvements in student academic achievement. There are 62 PIRCs located throughout the country that are funded by the US Department of Education.

Why: PTAs and PIRCs both work to engage parents to support student success. By working together, PIRCs and PTAs can form powerful partnerships that advocate for and advance effective family engagement policies and best practices in their states to raise student achievement.

Features: The brief highlights of model partnerships between state PTAs and PIRCs that provide innovative strategies for engaging families in the education of their children.  These partnerships also provide statewide leadership on the implementation of the parental involve¬ment provisions within the reauthorization of NCLB.
