CHICAGO (July 23, 2009) – Today, the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the Harvard Family Research Project (HFRP) released an issue brief, called Seeing is Believing: Promising Practices for How School Districts Promote Family Engagement, that highlights innovative strategies in engaging families. Why: Even though it is clear that family engagement makes a difference, less well understood is the role of school districts in promoting this engagement. The brief describes how districts build systemic family engagement as a core education reform strategy and includes a set of policy recommendations to help support this important work. Features: The brief cites case studies from across the country that reveal innovative components which show how parents, educators, and administrators share responsibility for family engagement resulting in student success.
