National PTA Announces Newest Board of Directors

CHICAGO (July 21, 2009) —National PTA recently announced eight new board members at the 113th Annual National PTA Convention and Exhibition in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. PTA’s National Board of Directors is comprised of 28 parents, education professionals, community and business leaders, and other child advocates from across the country. 

National board members serve two-year terms and are either elected member representatives by convention delegates or are appointed by the national president as at-large members.  Board member positions are unpaid, volunteer roles.  The new board members are:

• Gina Armor
Owner, Armor Auto Repair L.L.C.

• Laura Bay
Educator/Teacher, Bremerton School District

• Phillip Clark
Associate Director, Greenville Family Partnership

• Melissa Johnson
Stay at home mother, Child Advocate

 Mary Jo Neil
Professional Volunteer and Domestic Engineer

• Helane Robson
No current employer, Child Advocate

 David Squires
o No current employer, Child Advocate

• Al Tamagni
Communications Officer, Anchorage Fire Department

“We are proud to add such strong individuals to our national leadership.  Together, this board will continue the association’s rich legacy of engaging parents, schools, legislators, and community leaders in improving children’s health, safety, and educational success,” said Charles J. “Chuck” Saylors, National PTA president.

The national board works in concert with the National Staff to continue long-term strategies and priorities that benefit families nationwide.  The board and Chief Executive Officer also ensure the execution of the association's strategic plan to speak for every child with one voice. 

Members from around the United States and Europe, families, educators, and child advocates attended the convention.  The convention also featured more than 200 exhibitors, as well as dozens of workshops to provide parents and students with information, resources and connections to prepare for back-to-school time and to help their children succeed.
