PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov.13, 2008 – PTA and HP today announced one of the largest nationwide movie night events ever created for schools. With more than 3,000 schools participating, “PTA Movie Night Live” is the first nationally coordinated event where families in local communities across the country are coming together to enjoy a free showing of DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda, only days after the film’s DVD release. From Nov. 13 to 26, all PTA schools nationwide have been invited to host “PTA Movie Night Live” events to bring families together for a night of age-appropriate entertainment and to promote awareness of PTA’s new online video store ptavideostore.com. The store, which is powered by HP, was created to serve as a tool to help parents and families navigate the digital entertainment landscape by creating a safe destination where families and kids can purchase DVDs and TV shows. Thousands of G- and PG-rated movie titles and TV-G and TV-PG rated television shows are available on the PTA video store. Content rated PG-13 is also available, but requires a valid credit card number at checkout for age verification or proof of parental permission. A portion of the proceeds from the purchases on the PTA store support the organization’s child-focused work. “We’re proud that PTA schools across the country are bringing together families through safe, family entertainment at ‘PTA Movie Night Live’ events,” said Jan Harp Domene, national president, PTA. “These events also help raise awareness for the online PTA video store, which is not only a positive tool for parents to help them manage their children’s exposure to digital entertainment, but also a place that helps raise funds for important PTA programs across the country.” At “PTA Movie Night Live” events nationwide, families and community members can buy a $20 PTA Video Gift Card that is fully redeemable at the online PTA video store for purchases of movies and TV shows. Unlike some gift cards, PTA Video Gift Cards have no hidden gift card fees and do not expire. Plus, 10 percent of the proceeds from the purchase of gift cards at “PTA Movie Night Live” will benefit local PTA schools. The gift of family entertainment now available at local retailers Beginning this month, more than 17,000 retail stores nationwide will carry the PTA Video Gift Cards, including Office Depot, Walgreens, Dollar General, Kinney Drug and Valero. Retail gift cards can be purchased in several denominations, starting at $20. For every gift card purchase made at local retailers, 15 to 20 percent of the proceeds benefit the child-focused work of the PTA. PTA Video Gift Cards make an ideal gift for hard-to-buy-for friends and family, and can also make great stocking stuffers during the holidays – all while benefiting this important non-profit organization.
